A woman died Tuesday after someone shot into a car during rush hour traffic at one of Charlotte’s busiest intersections.

Authorities withheld the victim’s name pending notification of family members.

The incident was reported at 5:11 p.m. at the intersection of E. W T Harris Boulevard and N. Tryon Street in the University City area. When police arrived, they found the woman, still in the driver’s seat, mortally wounded. Paramedic pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police did not indicate a possible motive or suspect.

Detectives were canvassing the area to determine whether anyone witnessed the shooting.
