Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a 36-year-old man late Friday and charged him with a fatal shooting earlier that day in northeast Charlotte.
The victim, Jonathan Vereen, 35, was killed inside a residence in the 4400 block of Hubbard Road, near W. Sugar Creek Road in the University City division.
Police arrested Jeffvory Hughey and charged him with first-degree murder after Hughey went to CMPD headquarters and agreed to be questioned, according to a department spokesman. Hughey also was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting into an occupied property.
Before Hughey was booked in Mecklenburg jail, he was treated at a hospital for a “medial issue” not specified by CMPD, according to the spokesman.
No other suspects were being sought in the case.
