Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the death of 20-year-old Donsha Rankin after finding her suffering from an apparent gunshot wound late Tuesday.

At 10:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Seneca Place in south Charlotte, near Park Road, after getting a call about an assault with a deadly weapon.

Paramedics declared Rankin dead on scene.

Police said the victim and suspect knew one another and that the shooting happened inside a nearby apartment. The Charlotte Observer reported that the victim was pregnant.

Police did not release any information about a motive or possible suspect.
