People interested in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools magnet program will have seven more chances this week to weigh in on changes.
The community engagement sessions scattered across Mecklenburg County will be similar to the ones held last week. CMS staff will present a brief overview of possible changes to magnet programs, the assignment lottery and transportation zones. The school board and its consultants are looking for ways to break up concentrations of school poverty while improving family choice and academic performance.
Participants will break into small discussion groups. Feedback is being compiled for school board members to review as they make decisions this fall for the 2017-18 application season.
The current round of discussions focus only on magnets. In the coming months, CMS will study changes to boundaries and neighborhood schools, with any revisions taking effect in 2018-19.

Tuesday: East Mecklenburg High, 6800 Monroe Road.
Wednesday: Myers Park High, 2400 Colony Road, and Harding High, 2001 Alleghany St.
Thursday: Independence High, 1967 Patriot Drive, and West Mecklenburg High, 7400 Tuckaseegee Road.
