CMPD is investigating what a department spokeswoman described as a murder/suicide attempt early Sunday in east Charlotte.

Those involved were not immediately identified pending notification of family members.

The spokeswoman said officers were dispatched to the 6400 block of Woodbend Drive at 3 a.m. in response to a suicide threat. When the officers arrived, the found a man suffering from what appeared to be self-inflicted knife wounds. The officers also found a female inside the residence dead from apparent stab wounds.

The male was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

CMPD said the two people were involved in a relationship.
