An 11-year-old girl died Wednesday at Carolinas Medical Center after she was struck by a car while trying to cross a street in west Charlotte.
CMPD did not release the victim’s name pending notification of family members.
The crash happened at about 5:40 p.m. in the 2300 block of West Boulevard.
According to a CMPD report, the girl was attempting to cross the street with a female relative, also a juvenile, when she was struck by a 2006 Honda Ridgeline. The second child was uninjured.
The driver of the car, 35-year-old Janelle Garcia, also was uninjured. Police said Garcia stopped and remained at the scene until police arrived.
Police said the girls were not crossing at an intersection and were not in a marked crosswalk. Speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the crash, police said.
