Last weekend I saw comedian Deon Cole at the Comedy Zone. He definitely kept the audience in guffaw with his new material. With his good looks and charming personality, it’s quite obvious why Cole’s shows were completely sold out.
Another hot ticket was vocalist Maria Howell, who did her annual performance at Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Howell’s sultry voice and exquisite beauty were nothing less than elegant as she charmed the audience with two sold out shows. This event has been going 6 years strong at the Bechtler, and Howell nails it every year.
President Obama and Hilary Clinton had the crowd “fired up and ready to go” Tuesday at the convention center rally, along with the Silver Fox Cheerleaders. Vocalist Gena Chambers sang the National Anthem, and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Ensemble performed “Strong Finish, Strong Faith.” While the temperature was extremely warm, we the people showed up and out for this historical moment.
Lastly Terence Young, known as one of the baddest guitar players in the Southeast, set the stage ablaze Wednesday night at Sydney’s Martini and Wine Bar. In case you didn’t get the memo, Wednesday is the new Friday at Sydney’s. If you enjoyed last night, you may want to RSVP early for saxophonist Shableek, the hot ticket next Wednesday at Sydney’s. Oh yes, did I mention admission is free, and validated parking? Sounds like a plan to me.
Now for my weekend picks. I hope to see you on the town.
