A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police candidate died early Tuesday after he collapsed during physical training, according to a CMPD spokesman, who identified the candidate as 29-year-old Jeremy Moseley.
According to the spokesman, Moseley collapsed at about 8:30 a.m. while he and other newly hired candidates were taking part in a state-mandated physical fitness session. CMPD training staff and Charlotte Fire Department personnel rendered emergency aid, but Mosely was pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.
CMPD is working with the medical examiner’s officer to determine the cause of death. Chief Kerr Putney was scheduled to meet with reporters on Tuesday to discuss the incident.
Mosley joined the department on June 27.
