Police in Nevada have arrested a man suspected of killing a woman whose body was found Saturday inside a burning home in southwest Charlotte.

CMPD identified the man as Mathew Thomas Benner, 28. He will be charged in the death of Amanda Strous, 27, whose body was found by firefighters inside an apartment in the 12100 block of Toscana Way. Authorities have not said how Strous died.

CMPD Public Affairs Officer Keith R. Trietley said Benner was identified as a suspect during the investigation and was arrested Monday through a combined effort of the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, the Nye County (Nev.) Sheriff’s Office and the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team. As of midday Monday, Benner was being held in Nevada pending extradition.

Trietley said Benner will be charged with murder and first-degree arsons. He said the killing was not a random act but did not describe a potential relationship between Benner and victim.
