Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of murder in connection to a shooting Monday just north of UNC Charlotte.

The suspect, Michael Kevin Duncan, is accused of killing 46-year-old Darian Lavon Curry and wounding another man in what police said was a drug-related encounter in the 10200 block of Berkeley Place in the University City Division.

Police said Duncan was arrested Tuesday base on information gathered during the investigation. They did not say what evidence linked Duncan to the shooting.

Police were notified of the shooting at 7:10 p.m. when one of the victims called 911 to say that he had been shot and was on his way to a hospital. When officers arrived at Carolinas Medical Center-University, emergency room staff notified them that a second man also had been shot and was in the emergency room. One of the victims later died.

Police were still questioning Duncan early Tuesday but said he would be charged with murder.
