Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a single-car crash in west Charlotte that left a 55-yar-old woman dead Thursday evening.

At 7:14 p.m., officers received a call to assist with a wreck in the 3500 block of Brookshire Boulevard near Centre Street, where they found a 2008 Suzuki Forenza sedan that had run off the roadway and struck a large pole for the overhead signs indicating “Interstate 85 ahead.”

Paramedics pronounced the driver, Regina Paulette Strange, dead at the scene.

Police said speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash. Witnesses told detectives the car drove onto the shoulder several times before crashing into the pole.
