
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man Thursday suspected of committing a string of business robberies last fall, including two at a Wells Fargo bank on Sugar Creek Road and three at an auto parts store on Hankins Road.
The suspect, Tommy Joe Harvey Jr., 21, was booked in Mecklenburg jail, charged with four counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, one count of common law robbery, and one count of attempted common law robbery.
A CMPD spokesman said Harvey is suspected in the following incidents:
• On September 22, 2015 at 2:05 p.m., a male entered the Wells Fargo branch at 2610 West Sugar Creek Road and passed a note to a teller stating that he was robbing the bank. The teller handed the man money and the suspect left.
• On October 12, 2015 at 10:33 a.m., a male entered the Wells Fargo branch at 2610 West Sugar Creek Road, walked past the customers waiting in line and attempted to pass a note to a teller. The teller saw what was happening and hit the holdup alarm and told others that the bank was being robbed. The suspect left.
• On October 12, 2015 at 8:20 p.m., a male entered the Advanced Auto Parts store at 8515 Hankins Road and robbed the business at gunpoint.
• On November 14, 2015 at 8:23 p.m., a male entered the Advanced Auto Parts store at 8515 Hankins Road and robbed the business at gunpoint.
• On November 18, 2015 at 9:56 p.m., a male entered the O’Reillys Auto Parts store at 6505 Old States Road and robbed the business at gunpoint.
• On November 25, 2015 at 7:40 a.m., a male entered the Advanced Auto Parts store at 8515 Hankins Road and robbed the business at gunpoint.
Police did not say what led them to suspect Harvey in the string of robberies.
