Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged the parents of a 10-month-old girl with homicide after the child was found unresponsive in the parents’ home.
The parents, Basheba Freeman, 20, and Taquan Beecham, 23, are facing a single charge of murder due to child abuse in connection with the death of their daughter, Tayara Beecham.
Just before midnight Sunday, officers in the Hickory Grove Division were called to a home in the 9300 block of Winter Elm Lane in
reference to an infant who was found unresponsive. The child was later pronounced dead at Carolinas Medical Center.
A CMPD investigation, in consultation with the medical examiner’s office, determined that the infant was physically assaulted, which led to her death. Freeman and Beecham were questioned by homicide detectives and booked in the Mecklenburg jail.
