Police are investigating a one-car wreck early Saturday in south Charlotte that left a teen passenger dead and a teen driver in critical condition.
The crash was reported at 4:05 a.m. in the 4100 block of McKee Road, which is just north of the Interstate 485 loop.
According to an initial police report, Seok Won Andrew Sung, 17, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord traveling southwest on McKee Road with four passengers. The car was traveling “well above the posted 45mph speed limit” and entered a slight curve in the road to the right, the report stated.
Sung lost control of the car and overcorrected. The Honda slid sideways, crossed the double-yellow line and across the opposing lane. The car ran off the road to the left and struck a tree on the passenger side.
Front-seat passenger Joshua Pang, 14, died at the scene. The driver and remaining passengers were taken to Carolinas Medical Center.
Investigators said drug and/or alcohol use were not suspected as contributing factors in the crash. Excessive speed, however, did appear to be a factor.
As of early Sunday, Sung was listed in critical condition. Investigators will decide lather whether to charge him with a crime.
