Police arrested two teens, ages 13 and 14, and charged them with a Wednesday night incident in which shots were fired in east Charlotte.
Authorities did not release the suspects’ names because they are juveniles.
According to an initial police report, the incident began around 8 p.m. when police got a call about shots fired in the 2700 block of Lanecrest Drive. The caller said a person was shooting and had assaulted a family member.
While officers were on their way to the scene, they got new information that the suspect had gone to an area near the 2700 block of Milton Road, near Barrington Drive. Plainclothes officers were in the area and saw a person fire shots into the air.
The suspect ran across the street, along with a second person. Officers followed the suspects and, as the officers were getting out of their car, the suspect fired more rounds and fled into the woods.
The officers gave chase and both suspects were caught and arrested. Police also found a firearm nearby, according to a CMPD spokeswoman.
No one was reported injured.
The 14-year-old juvenile was charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting within the city limits, possession of a firearm by a minor and resisting arrest. He was released to the custody of a parent. The 13-year-old was charged with resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.
