Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a shooting in uptown Charlotte that happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near the CATS Transit Center.

The shooting was reported in the 100 block of S. Brevard Street.

When officers arrived, they found a male lying in a parking lot suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police later detained a possible suspect, whose name was not immediately released.

“At this time it appears that a dispute between known subjects led to the shooting and this was not a random act of violence,” CMPD spokesman Keith R. Trietley said in a statement released to local media.
