Cardra Burns joins county Health Department

Burns has joined the county agency as assistant health director, having previously worked in public health in Halifax County.

Cardra E. Burns has joined the Mecklenburg County Health Department as assistant health director. Her first day was March 7.

Burns most recently served as heath director in Halifax County, just north of Rocky Mount. She also served as nutrition director in Scotland County, which includes the city of Laurinburg, and spent the first five years of her public health career in Dekalb County, Ga.

Burns holds a bachelor of science degree in nutrition/food science from Georgia Southern University; a master of business administration degree from Webster University; a master of public administration degree and a doctorate in business administration, both from Walden University.

Burns is involved in various community initiatives, including community sustainability and engagement projects, teen pregnancy prevention, drug abuse prevention, breastfeeding awareness and support activities, and promoting healthier lifestyles for North Carolina residents.

She enjoys cooking, spending time with family/friends, and caring for her spirited Chihuahua “Brutis.”
