A memorial service will be held for former City Council member Malachi Greene on Saturday, March 5, at First Baptist Church-West, 1801 Oaklawn Avenue in northwest Charlotte.

The service is scheduled for 12 p.m. The family will receive visitors at the church at 11 a.m.

Greene, 73, died Feb. 25 after a long battle with cancer.

Greene served two terms on Charlotte City Council in the 1990s. A Democrat, he also served in the administration of N.C. Republican Gov. Jim Martin and was later appointed under Gov. Mike Easley to the state Lottery Commission.
