Three days into the new year, Charlotte recorded its first homicide early Sunday – a shooting in the 2200 block of Beatties Ford Road.
Police identified the victim as Tyrone Matthew Burch, 45.
According to initial CMPD reports, Burch had gotten into an altercation with another man, Shelton Andre Kimble, 47, shortly after midnight. Paramedics pronounced Burch dead at the scene.
Kimble later turned himself in at CMPD headquarters and was charged with murder.

According to The Charlotte Observer, the city saw a dramatic increase in homicides in 2015, when 62 people were killed, an increase of nearly 50 percent over the previous year and a six-year high.
