A man wanted by police on suspicion that he shot and seriously wounded a woman in east Charlotte has turned himself in.
Reco Latur Dawkins Jr., 23, was charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering, and conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering.
Dawkins was charged Sunday in connection with a Nov. 3 home invasion and shooting in the 6400 block of Matlea Court, just south of Plaza Road Extension.
According to police reports, Dawkins kicked in the door of a home shortly before 9:51 a.m. while the victim was inside with her infant.
The mother was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The child was not injured in the attack.
Police said Dawkins and the victim did not know one another.
Mecklenburg jail records show Dawkins had been arrested at least six time previously in Mecklenburg County, dating back to 2013, on charges including breaking and entering, possession of marijuana and possession of a stolen gun. As of early Monday he was being held in the Mecklenburg County jail with bond set at $25,000.
