A second person also was injured during the incident and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening. The campus was on lockdown until shortly before 5 a.m., according to WBTV.
The shooting happened as the school was celebrating homecoming weekend.
On the university’s website, school officials said counseling services would be made available for students requesting it. The school also notified concerned families looking to go on campus to report to F.L. Atkins Room 108 or call 336-750-2000.
Authorities are searching for Jarrett Jerome Moore for questioning. He is not thought to be a student there.
