Nepherterra and Kendric Best said “I Do” September 4, 2015 in front of family and friends on the beautiful sands of Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Although Nepherterra and Kendric both attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, their paths never crossed in college.
“I knew who Nepherterra was when we were in college,” Kendric recalled, “but SHE didn’t know who I was. I think it’s better that we didn’t know each other back then. We met when we were supposed to, and that’s what really matters.”
Kendric is a Financial Crimes Consultant for Wells Fargo and Nepherterra is an entrepreneur who co-founded Mosaic Communications in Milwaukee and Pride Public Relations in Charlotte. The couple met at a social event in Charlotte during the Christmas holiday in 2009 and went on their first date soon after.
“I was actually hesitant and a little nervous to go on our first date. I had no idea that would be my first date with my future husband,” said Nepherterra. “Kendric was such a gentleman and made me feel so comfortable that first night. We had a special connection, even on our first date.”
Shortly after their first date, Kendric was offered a position with Wells Fargo in the Washington, D.C. area. After learning he was moving, Nepherterra sent Kendric a text that read: “Sorry we didn’t get to hang out more.” He moved from Charlotte to D.C. in March 2010 and the couple began dating long distance.
“When I saw that text, I knew I had a chance,” Kendric recalls. “I knew I’d have to find a way back to Charlotte. Thankfully, I was able to transfer back within the same year.”
When Kendric moved back to the Queen City, the couple became virtually inseparable and began making priceless memories together. After many laughs, travel adventures, lazy afternoons, an amazing son named Bryson and a new home, Kendric popped the question in February 2014.
“I was shocked and surprised when I saw him get down on one knee,” Nepherterra said. “In my head and my heart, we were already married; but the proposal definitely made it official.”
But the couple has one major issue that they haven’t been able to overcome: Nepherterra, a Milwaukee, WI native, is a Green Bay Packers fan, while Kendric, a native of Elizabeth, NJ is a New York Giants fan. Needless to say, an intense rivalry exists, and they remain “a house divided,” but only when it comes to football.
“Nepherterra comes from a die-hard Packer family, but the only team that really matters is the New York Football Giants,” said Kendric. “We can’t wait to see what team our 3-year-old son Bryson gravitates toward. All I know is, he better pick the Giants!”
The couple was humbled to have shared their special day with 55 very special guests. It was a fantastic wedding weekend, filled with family, friends and fellowship.
