Police identify man shot dead in parking lot

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a man was found shot to death Tuesday afternoon in a North Charlotte parking lot.

Police have identified a man shot dead in a north Charlotte parking lot Wednesday as Rakeem Shamar Massard, 25.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Griers Grove Road, near Beatties Ford Road, around 2:22 p.m, just as students were getting off a school bus, according to local media reports.

Authorities did not immediately identify the victim because the man’s family had not been notified.

Sometime around 12:22 p.m., police got a call from someone reporting that shots had been fired in the 1800 block of Griers Grove Road. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying in a parking lot, dead.

Police began canvassing the areas looking for pwitnesses to the shooting.
