The North Carolina NAACP heads to Winston-Salem this week for its 72nd Annual State Convention, which will be held in the city’s Benton Convention Center. The gathering kicks off Thursday, Oct. 8, and ends on Saturday, Oct. 10.
This year’s theme: “Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice.”
“Liberty is not simply something you wish for.” NAACP State President William J. Barber said in a statement. “It has always been something that you have to strive for and struggle for in this country.
“This is a training convention where we bring all of our delegates together to get a sense of what’s at stake and what our fight is in the days to come,” he added.
On Thursday, the convention will open with a Religious Emphasis Day, held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Drive, Winston-Salem.
