If you came across a Facebook page titled “Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Suck,” you’d be forgiven if you naturally assumed that its author was someone sympathetic to the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
But you’d be wrong.
Whoever created that page apparently has it in for newly appointed CMPD Chief Kerr Putney.
Created September 21, the page is shaping up to be a diatribe against Putney and his management of the department. But more specifically, the page seems to take issue with Putney and the role he played in brining criminal charges against CMPD officer Randall Kerrick, who shot and killed Jonathan Ferrell in 2013. (We all know how that ended.)
Whoever created the page seems to have also created an ancillary page that is equally critical of Mayor Dan Clodfelter for any role he might have played in selecting Putney to succeed former Chief Rodney Monroe and for any role he might have played in awarding the Ferrell family $2.25 million to settle their lawsuit against the city.
So far, not much has been posted on the page, but I’ll certainly keep an eye out.
