Culinary journalist Toni Tipton-Martin, one of the founders of the Southern Foodways Alliance, visits from Austin, Texas, to talk about her book The Jemima Code. In this project, Tipton-Martin shares significant research that documents the roles of African American women in the development of southern cuisine. The evening features a talk by Tipton-Martin at 7 pm followed by a reception. Presented by UNC Charlotte’s Center for the Study of the New South in partnership with Levine Museum, and hosted by Center director Dr. Jeffrey Leak.
