Dwight Lamont Burch

A man died of stab wounds Sunday morning in southwest Charlotte, and police charged a suspect with murder.

After remaining at the scene and interviewing with detectives, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said 44-year-old Dwight Lamont Burch admitted to stabbing 42-year-old Scott Richard Connelly.

Police charged Burch with second degree murder.

Police said they received a call for service at 5:51 a.m. and found Connelly suffering from an apparent stab wound in the 13300 block of York Center Drive. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Pineville and pronounced dead.

Burch told detectives at police headquarters that Connelly tried to force his way into Burch’s hotel room to continue an argument from earlier. When Connelly entered his room, Burch said he stabbed him.

Burch was taken to Mecklenburg County jail.
