Home to one of the largest business districts and malls in Charlotte and the state of North Carolina, the SouthPark area is centered at the intersection of Fairview Rd and Sharon Rd near the city’s limits. Named after the high end SouthPark Mall was built in 1970, the area was once owned by former North Carolina Governor Cameron Morrison as a part of his 3,000-acre farm. Many important companies can be found in SouthPark, such as Bank of America, First Citizen’s Bank, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., and Piedmont Natural Gas. SouthPark is also home to South Mecklenburg High School, Myers Park High School, and the Morrison branch of the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
