Located only fifteen miles north of Uptown Charlotte, Lake Norman is one of Charlotte’s closest and largest bodies of water. Lake Norman is manmade lake that was created as a result of the creation of a dam by Duke Energy. Lake Norman spans over 500 miles of shore line and is 50 square-miles in surface area.

This lake fuels hydro-powered energy systems and offers freshwater for many of the surrounding counties, including Mecklenburg. Lake Norman is a yearlong attraction for many Charlotteans. With options like fishing, boating, sun bathing, or even nature watching there are many possibilities for those visiting, living or wanting to be entertained at the local areas of Lake Norman.
