Before leaving for the International Thespian Festival in Nebraska, Corey Mitchell and the cast of “The Color Purple” will present an encore performance in Charlotte on Sunday, June 16.

Written as a novel in 1982 by Alice Walker and adapted to the screen in 1985 by Steven Spielberg, “The Color Purple” chronicles the story of Celie as she finds strength and happiness in the face of adversity.

Northwest School of the Arts (NWSA) first performed “The Color Purple” in September 2012. When scouts from the International Thespian Festival saw the results, they invited the cast to perform in Nebraska. NWSA is the second school to perform the musical. No North Carolina school has been invited to the festival in 33 years.
