Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man who is accused of firing a gun that struck a bystander in the parking lot of a gas station in west Charlotte.
On Sunday, police charged 24-year-old Stephon Washington with discharging a firearm within city limits.
According to a police report, an officer was flagged down by a wounded victim while responding to shots being fired at a Shell Gas Station at 2736 Freedom Drive early on Saturday morning.
The victim told police he was sitting in his car when two suspects began in a verbal altercation in the parking lot. The victim said the argument lead to a shot being fired which hit the victim in the neck.
Police said the suspects fled the scene in their vehicles.
The victim was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit investigated the scene and through surveillance cameras were able to identify one of the suspects as Washington.
Police said Washington later admitted to pulling the trigger of his weapon at an unknown individual he was in an argument with.
Washington is currently being held in Mecklenburg County jail and his weapon was recovered by detectives.
