A woman was killed in south Charlotte when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree.
According to a police report, Bairon Josue Sandoval, 23, was driving Isais Lucero, 46, Hilda Mora Jijon, 41, and Tatiana Rivera, 20, westbound on an icy Tyvola Road early on Sunday morning when he lost control of a 2000 Nissan Frontier and struck a tree in the median. Police said there are no other known vehicles involved in the wreck.
Paramedics pronounced Rivera dead on the scene and the other victims were transported to the hospital for their injuries. When Sandoval was released police charged him for DWI, Felony Death by Vehicle, Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle, and No Operators License.
