Political activist and academic Angela Davis will present the annual Wearn Lecture at Davidson College on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Davis will speak on the subject “Political Activism and Protest from the 1960s to the Age of Obama.”
In the early 1970s, Davis was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitive List and spent 18 months on trial and in jail before being acquitted of all charges. Prosecutors had alleged that she was involved in a California hostage-taking incident that led to the deaths of several people, including a judge.
In recent years, Davis has taught at the university level and been involved in issues related to economic, racial and gender justice. She is also the author of nine books.
