Artist Beverly McIver will give a free lecture at the Mint Museum Uptown on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

McIver, the subject of the acclaimed documentary “Raising Renee” about taking care of her mentally disabled sister, grew up in Greensboro and is an art professor at North Carolina Central University.

Her expressionistic paintings welcome viewers into her personal life and probe the issue of identity. Her solo exhibition, “Reflections: Portraits by Beverly McIver,” is on display Oct. 20-Jan. 6 at the Mint Museum Uptown.

The lecture begins at 7 p.m. at the Mint Museum Uptown, 500 South Tryon St.
