Donal Nixon, 79, of Mint Hill, N.C., departed this life Saturday October 20, 2012 at University Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Charlotte.

He was the son of the late John F. Nixon and Pearl Blocker Nixon. He was a graduate of Western Union High School, served two years in the U.S. Army and attended Carver College. He was a member of Rock Hill AME Zion Church of Mint Hill, N.C.

He rededicated his life to Christ and lived a peaceful life, enjoying gardening, reading his Bible and enjoying his children and grandchildren. He was a longtime employee of Associated Trucking Co. and United Coatings.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lore Nixon, and his two brothers, Earl Nixon and Eugene Nixon.

He leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Darrell Nixon (Beverly — deceased), Cathy Cherry (William Jr.), and Julie Ray (Felix); four grandchildren, Kimberly Cherry, Katrina Belamy, Michele Demby and Denise Demby; two sisters, Eloise Pettice (George) and Mary Ruth Johnson (James — deceased), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services to be held at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday October 28, at 11 a.m. with the visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn-East Cemetery.

Alexander is serving the Nixon Family.
