Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. continues in their innovative approach to community service when they host their Sixth Annual Bar Hop.

The fraternity sponsors this event to increase awareness regarding the statistical discrepancies associated with breast cancer and its effect in the African American population. Unfortunately, the breast cancer diagnosed in women of color is likely to be found at a much later stage and have a worse prognosis compared to the same disease in Caucasians. This discrepancy results in a 10 percent lower five-year survival rate for African Americans, says Dr. Yvette Bessent, a partner at Northcross OB/GYN a former member of the Board of Directors of the Charlotte Affiliate of Susan G. Komen.

The event is a fundraiser for the Charlotte affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure with all proceeds being donated to the organization, voted “Top Philanthropic Organization in Charlotte” for 2011.This event is open to everyone.

The event will take place on October 18, 2011 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at The Metropolitan in Midtown starting at Vivace, moving on to Pisces Sushi Bar & Lounge and finishing up at Dresslers.
