Here’s an event for people who like good food but are also concerned about good health.

On Saturday, September 1, the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) will host a healthy food cook-off at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

The event will mirroring the popular “Iron Chef” competition and will feature professional chefs and childcare cooks competing to create healthy meals, tasty appetizers. Attendees will get tips on creating healthy snacks and fitness activities for children and adults.

Because of the high rate of obesity among African American children, the event will focus on that demographic group, says Eleanor Toliver, president of the charlotte chapter of NBCDI and owner/director of First Ward Child Development Center.
