The Coca-Cola Sunset Jazz Festival on Sept. 8 will feature a lineup of international talent, including “The King of Nouveau Swing” Donald Harrison. This year’s festival will be from 2 p.m.-9 p.m. at Symphony Park at SouthPark Mall.

Harrison, who will headline the event, has been called one of the most important musicians of the new millennium by CBS Sunday Morning. He is the originator of the Nouveau Swing style, which merges acoustic swing with modern R&B, second-line, hip-hop and reggae rhythms.

Harrison’s smooth jazz recording, “The Power of Cool,” went to the top of Billboard Magazine’s Smooth Jazz and R&B charts and is considered a classic.

“We are delighted to bring a national act of such caliber to this year’s festival… and we are happy the festival is taking place as the Democratic National Convention wraps up,” said Dee Dixon, publisher of Pride Magazine and organizer of the festival. “We are hoping some of the out-of-town guests will join us for an afternoon of great jazz.”

Popular local and regional acts the Calvin Edwards Trio, Envision, Fat Snacks and Los Leones also will heat up the Coca-Cola Sunset Jazz Festival stage throughout the afternoon.
