Located in Charlotte’s Historic South End, Vervé Beauty Spa & Salon is the place to be when you want to get away, relax and treat yourself to a little pampering and inner rejuvenation.

Take half an hour out of your day to stop by and indulge in one of Vervé’s signature therapeutic massages or facial treatments. If you want to make a full day of it, spoil yourself with the six-hour “Day at Vervé” package, which includes a custom massage, rejuvenating facial, pedicure, manicure, hairstyle, brow design and lunch.

Owner Verbena Wilson is a licensed cosmetologist with more than 20 years of experience. She said when she opened the salon in 2007, her vision was to create a relaxing atmosphere where the staff is not only focused on enhancing your outer beauty but also on leaving a positive impact on your inner spirit — where Wilson believes true beauty begins.

“I’ve always known that there was more that I wanted to do that God put in me,” Wilson said. “Even in the hair industry, I wanted to make it such a relaxing experience for the client. I’ve always wanted to open a full service spa and salon. It’s always been a passion inside of me. I wanted to be able to know that I can impact someone’s inner spirit, which will only reflect on their outer beauty.”

Vervé’s nail salon offers everything from gel polish manicures and metallic nails to MINX nail applications, which are an alternative to polish that require no drying time and can last up to two weeks. The salon offers an array of hair care services from round brush styling to Keratin smoothing treatments.

The fellas are welcome, too. Vervé offers a customized package for men that includes a hot stone massage, a refreshing facial, a grooming pedicure, manicure, and lunch.

Wilson, a Charlotte native, said as a child she wanted to be a teacher but discovered her natural knack for hairstyling in her late teens. Throughout her 23-year career she has worked in fashion shows and been employed as a commentator, magazine contributor, bridal assistant, and wedding coordinator.

“There is so much in the cosmetology and beauty industry that one can do, but so many people just focus on cutting and coloring hair,” she said. “I never put myself in a box. I’ve always been open to opportunities that came my way.”

She stumbled across the building for her salon and spa learning that the previous tenants, who she had hired to build her business website, were planning to relocate. They suggested she come by to check out the building, which she did. Immediately she fell in love with not just the space but the neighborhood as well.

“I used to come to this area all the time,” she said. “I knew that it was an area that I wanted to be in. South End is very urban. It’s very eclectic. It’s very intimate, and it’s three minutes from uptown. So we have the whole excitement of uptown, yet we still have that privatized feeling of having our own parking and a community of neighbors around us.”
