Rosa Lee Akins Denny was born in Washington, D.C., on October 15, 1941 to Burt Arthur and Lois Atkins. She attended public school in Washington, D.C., and graduated from Eastern High School. On August 22, 1959, Rosa married her ā€œbest friend,ā€ Montague Joseph Denny, and to their union they had two beautiful children, Gary Darnell Denny and Stacey Monique Denny Davidson.

In 1962 they relocated to Los Angeles, Calif., where Rosa went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in education from California State Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA. Rosa began her career in teaching at St. John’s Lutheran School in Long Beach, CA, where she taught many levels from kindergarten through 8th grade. She later moved to Phoenix, AZ, were she became a principal at a local Lutheran school.

In 1993 she and Monte moved to Charlotte, where retirement was to begin, but instead she began working as a substitute teacher and special education aide. Rosa was an avid baker, canner, square dancer and round dancer for over 20 years. She was a dedicated servant of God, by being involved in numerous ministries at her church such as the hospitality team, nursery ministry, YAH choir, and, most important, the first senior member to be on the SHEKINAH dance team. She was a true giver and never expected anything in return.

She was preceded in death by her father, Burt Arthur Akins; mother, Lois Toles Akins; sister, Mary Elizabeth Akins Henderson; brother, Burt Arthur Akins Jr.; and son, Gary Darnell Denny.

She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 52 years, Montague J. Denny, of Charlotte; daughter, Stacey Monique Davidson (Michael) Mountain View, CA; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five nieces, and a host of cousins other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 30, at 12 p.m. at New Beginnings Community Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Church.
