Rev. Dr. Dorothy Sharpe Johnson of Matthews, NC, had her sunrise June 14, 1942, and her sunset May 31, 2011.
She was born to the late Mark B. and Clara Sharpe in Wilson County, NC. She graduated from North Carolina Central University with highest honors. She earned the MRE from Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury, NC, and the M/Div. and Doctor of Ministry degrees at Gordon-Conwell theological Seminary, Charlotte, NC.
She served as pastor of Indian Hill A.M.E. Zion, Fort Mill, SC, for seven years until she retired for health reasons.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband, Bishop Joseph Johnson; sons, Timothy Johnson of Holly Springs, NC, and Rev. Anthony Johnson of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Angelica Lynn Johnson and Derrick Joseph Johnson; four sisters, Barbara S. Jones of Wendell, NC, Trumilla S. Jones of Roosevelt, NY, Earnestine S. Wright of Mitchellville, MD, and Betty S. Coley of Goldsboro, NC; three brothers, Rudolph Sharpe of Wilson, NC, Eugene Sharpe of Wilson, and David Sharpe of Phoenix, AZ.
Services will be held at Varick Auditorium on the campus of Livingstone College, Salisbury, NC, Saturday, June 4, 2011. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. The funeral will be held at 12 noon.
Interment, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, NC.
