The Rev. Jerry T. White, Ph.D., of Huntersville went home to be with the Lord on December 15, 2010. He was 72 years old.
Born August 22, 1938, he was the oldest of eight children to the late Rev. Walter White and Athena White in Perry, FL. After high school, he attended Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill, SC, where he met and married Frankie Allen, his wife of 52 years. He continued his education at Barber Scotia College, Hood Theological Seminary and Drew University, where he received his Doctorate of Ministry Degree.
Rev. White pastored several churches in the A.M.E. Zion denomination and served as a presiding elder of the Salisbury and Charlotte districts, respectively. He was currently serving Piney Grove AME Zion Church in Harmony, NC.
Rev. White Jerry received a heart transplant in August 1998, allowing family and friends to enjoy him a little longer and for him to continue to do God’s work. With his wisdom, subtle demeanor, optimism and abundant knowledge, he touched the lives of many. A true man of God, he was a teacher, a mentor, a counselor, a friend, a wonderful husband and a fantastic father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter White, and his son, Réchon J. White. He leaves his loving family to cherish his memories: His wife, Frankie; mother, Athena; children: Ardise (Jerome), Henrico, and Venitra (Richard); Grandchildren: Javoris Dunlap, Toria Dunlap, Jerron Dunlap, Jahmia Black, Ian White, Ariel White, and Aubree Dean; Great grandchildren: Jayden, Jaquavious, Amaya, Kingston and Madison; Sisters, brothers and a host of other relatives.
Funeral Service for Rev. Jerry T. White will be on Tuesday, December 21, at 1 p.m. at Greenville Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 6116 Monteith Drive, Charlotte. Visitation is from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Interment will be in the Walls Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery.
