Celebrating the start of the Kwanzaa season, Tyrone Jefferson leads A Sign Of The Times, his big band, through the best of 11 years of Black history with music and dance.

Mixing genres such as jazz, latin and gospel music with African, tap and liturgical dancing, this concert makes a wonderful transition into a reflective Kwanzaa season. You will experience original music and arrangements of songs from the band’s four self-produced CDs and six thematic DVDs including “The Story of Our Family”; “The Mis-Education of the Child” (2009); “The Quilt: Covering Mothers, Mommies and Mamas” (2008); and “Suite: Songs For Our Fathers” (2007).

Tyrone Jefferson, who worked for 27 years as music director/trombonist for singer James Brown, is joined by the region’s best jazz and R&B musicians. His company, A Sign Of The Times of the Carolinas, is the non-profit organization behind the big band dedicated to music education, music production/performance and programming that positively reflects the rich, distinctly African-American musical heritage.
