The Rev. Richard A. Macon, 84, died on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Golden Living Center.
He was born in Chester, S.C., and was the son of Isaiah and Mozella Macon. He was preceded in death by Minnie, his wife of 46 years, and daughter, Doris Wilson.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946. He served as pastor of several churches in North Carolina and South Carolina. He was a member and associate pastor at First Baptist Church-West of Charlotte.
Survivors include children; Barbara Macon, Palmira Elaine Mattox (Ed), Isaiah Macon (Sallie), Seth Macon, Linda Macon, Mindy Macon and Felisha Macon, all of Charlotte; one brother, Anthony Macon of Philadelphia, Pa.; sister in-law Lucille Walters of New Jersey; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church-West at noon on Friday, October 29, 2010. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The Rev. Ricky A. Woods is officiating.
