The H.E.L.P Project Network will hold its first annual Literacy Celebration Day at Johnson C. Smith University on Sunday, May 30, from noon to 7 p.m.
The purpose is to raise awareness to the importance of literacy, beginning at an early age.
Slated activities include: workshops on SAT prep and college readiness, grooming techniques, self esteem building, mentor matching, panel discussions, and entertainers. Parents and teens will discuss the state of hip-hop and the effect its message is having on different sectors of the community. The day will culminate with a talent show.
Invited guests include Patrick Graham, president/CEO of the Urban League of Central Carolinas; Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx and a host of other elected officials and local entertainers.
The talent show will be hosted by special celebrity guest judges.
