Mr. Jimmy David Anderson Sr. was born in Spartanburg, S.C., on July 18, 1946, and passed away at home in Charlotte on January 20, 2010.
He was the son of Johnnie and Gladys Anderson of Spartanburg.
A Vietnam-era veteran, Mr. Anderson received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1971 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He was married to his life partner, Janie Jones Anderson, for 37 years. He was a member of University City Church in Charlotte.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Anderson leaves 12 siblings to mourn his passing: Ruby Miller (Horace), of Oak Ridge, TN; Martha Landrum, Joseph Anderson, Louvenia Valeka and Brownie Rana, all of Atlanta, GA; Johnny Anderson (Donna) of Charlotte; and Cora Palmer, Mary Smith (John), Ronald Anderson (Marilyn), Arthur Anderson, Johnny Gentry and Robert Lyles, all of Spartanburg.
Mr. Anderson was extremely proud of his five children: Tormico Anderson of Charlotte; Jimmy Anderson Jr., Torris Lyles (Sarah), and Shavon Anderson, all of Spartanburg; and Jimmy “Billy Boy” Gaffney (Wanda) of Columbia, SC. He had 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and an uncle. He was especially fond of his in-laws, Theodore and Virginia Jones of Charlotte.
A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Anderson will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at University City Church, 7829 Old Concord Rd.
