In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Mint Museum of Art will host a discussion about race and culture.
From 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., tour the galleries and view the special exhibition Loïs Mailou Jones: A Life in Vibrant Color, which surveys the vast sweep of Jones’s career, stretching from late post-Impressionism to a contemporary synthesis of African, Caribbean, American and African-American iconography, design and thematic elements.
At 7:00 p.m., gather in the Van Every Auditorium for a lecture and discussion of the artist’s representation of the African-American male, led by Professor Hasaan Kirkland of Johnson C. Smith University.
