Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor called it “the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen.”

Fans around the globe have lined up to buy tickets.

We are talking, of course, about the new Michael Jackson movie “This It It,” which debuts at midnight in theaters worldwide, including here in the Qcity.

The King of Pop died June 25 in Los Angeles as he was preparing for a 50-show comeback tour in London. “This Is It” is culled from more than 100 hours of rehearsal footage and shows a healthy-looking Jackson crafting his signature moves and performing some of his top hits.

No critics have seen the film, according to the Associated Press. But Sony — which paid $60 million for the film rights — showed a 12-minute clip to entertainment journalists last week.

Some of Jackson’s family members are said to have seen it, as has, apparently, Taylor, Jackson’s longtime friend and confidante. On Twitter yesterday, the 77-year-old star was ga-ga over the movie.

“It cements forever Michael’s genius in every aspect of creativity,” she wrote.

The film will run for 16 days.

Catch us Wednesday when the Qcity’s own Lashawnda Becoats offers a review.
