Police went door Tuesday at the south Charlotte apartment complex where a string of rapes this year is suspected to be the work of a lone assailant.
So far this year, three women have reported being attacked inside their units at the Yorktown Garden Apartments off Tyvola Road near South Boulevard.
In each case, the suspect was describe as being a black man approximately 25 years old. He’s reported to be tall with a slim build wearing a black ski mask, gloves, black shirt and black pants. The suspect may also have a cut on one of his fingers.
On Tuesday, about a dozen police officers went door-to-door warning residents to call police if they see unfamiliar men in the area. They also released a photo of a can of cleaning solution that they think the attacker left during one of the assaults. They are asking asked anyone with information about the can to call police.
The most recent attack occurred Monday, just after 8:00 am. According to CMPD, the assailant broke into an apartment through a sliding glass door and sexually assaulted the occupant.
The two earlier assaults occurred on Sept. 21 and Feb. 28.
On Oct. 7, a woman reported being sexual assaulted on Kentland Drive, which is adjacent to the Yorktown complex, but police say that attack was unrelated and that a suspect was arrested in the Kentland Drive case.
