The Chocolate Drops, an African American string-band, brings new meaning to string bands of the past. With their time-honored African American string-band sound, the three band mates put traditional twists on modern songs.
Rhiannon Giddens, Dom Flemons and Justin Robinson join together to recreate Carolina Piedmont music of the past. They use traditional instruments such as the claw-hammer banjo, fiddle, snare drum, bone percussion and the kazoo.
The group takes inspiration from their mentor, Joe Thompson, a famed fiddler from North Carolina. All skilled musicians, Giddens, Flemons and Robinson vocalize together and swap instruments throughout their performance.
